The Bottom Billion

The Lionel Gelber Prize 25th Anniversary: Sir Paul Collier

YCSG colleague, Paul Collier, Director of the Centre for the Study of African Economies at Oxford, discusses his landmark book, The Bottom Billion, in an interview with John Stackhouse, a senior fellow at the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto.

The video is part of a larger project undertaken by the Munk School to mark the 25th anniversary of the Lionel Gelber Prize, which is awarded annually to the best English-language book on international affairs. It was the first prize awarded to The Bottom Billion. Professor Collier has worked with the YCSG on multiple projects including, most recently, the Natural Resource Governance Institute and the Natural Resource Charter. Collier discusses Africa today with regard to poverty, peace and security, economic development, and his hopes for and cynicism about Africa’s future.
